I have to be honest with you. I wasn't going to share this one. It was just too good. What if I let this cat out of the bag and everybody and their grandmother started cashing in on it? What then? But then I figured, what the hell? It's not like I do a lot of work these days and spend a lot of time on this one. Sure, I intend to dabble a bit, but full time? No way in hell. I'd much rather be playing video games and Magic the Gathering. So for the rest of us working stiffs, this one's for you.

The water bill arrives and the consumption is higher than normal. In looking at the bill you realize it's winter time, your water consumption is down, but the bill says it is up as if its summer when your water consumption is higher. Then it hits you faucet replace a water leak! At some point almost all homeowners run into this problem.

When you get to the house stand if front of the toilet and locate the water shut off valve. Should be down below the toilet on the wall. Just turn it off (righty-tighty) completely and flush the toilet. All the water should have left the tank, well at least most of it. If there is remaining water line repair get it out with paper towels or a rag. The important thing is that no more water came in. If it did then your valve is not shut all the way or not working and you need additional help.



The con to time well spent is only if the fix or installation works. Suddenly, when a pipe is squirting water or the dishwasher is leaking all over the floor, that time seems wasted instead of well spent. Now your time is wasted, plus you have to pay for a professional plumber to come over and fix the mess. That time could have been spent doing something else, like golfing or swimming or gardening.

The water line repair most likely damaged your electrical outlets and lighting fixtures. Have a qualified electrician come in to evaluate and repair the electrical.

68. Sea sickness: I always keep a bucket in the cockpit, much better that the sufferer is sick into a receptacle of sorts than tries to be sick over the side.

A large plumbing job, such as re-piping or installing additional fixtures, may require a permit. Check with your city's department of building and safety before asking for estimates, and avoid any plumbers who are reluctant to comply with regulations.
